STOP PRIMITIVE SLAUGHTER !!! LOOK AT THE ALTERNATIVES !!!

All people seem to care about these days are: What’s the newest car? What's the newest trashy song? What’s the newest cosmetic product out there? What’s the newest bath bomb? You can admit that all of these things are pretty obnoxious on their own, I mean, songs now a days can be pretty terrible.
However, what people don't realize is that one of the items above involves cruelty and the abuse of animals. Rabbits, mice, gerbils, and rats, are just a few species of animals that are used as test subjects for cosmetic testing.

In some countries such as China, it is the law that cosmetic products and drugs, along with other appliances that humans use, have to be tested on animals before they can be put on the shelves of markets. Researchers, as they call themselves, test animals for a wide variety of reasons.

A few examples of irritation tests they conduct are the irritation of the eyes, which involves the injection of the cosmetic product in the eyes of various test subjects; as well as the irritation of the skin, which involves them shaving an area of the animal and applying the product onto the skin until it irritates or burns the animal. As sad as it is to say, these aren’t the only tests that are conducted on animals. Other tests include digestion, toxicity tests, injections….. The list goes on and on. But in the end, what does this really accomplish ?

Marc Bekoff, is a professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Colorado, and in his article on the testing of animals for drugs he says:
"The FDA reports that 92 percent of drugs approved for testing in humans fail to
receive approval for human use. This failure rate has increased from 86 percent
in 1985, in spite of all the 'advances and refinements' intended to make animal
           tests more accurate."
So if we can’t even rely on the results of animal drug testing, then how can we rely on the results that come out of animal testing ?

The answer is simple, WE CAN’T!!! Why should we spend all of our efforts on testing cosmetic products and drugs on animals if they don’t even work?! This has to change! People have to wake up and look to the future!
We may not be able to change the laws that say that Cosmetics must be tested before humans can buy them, but we can change the methods that are used to test the cosmetics. Here are a few alternatives for testing cosmetics:

Human Testing :

Although it may be painful, testing the products on ourselves would be a more valid and efficient way to determine whether it is safe for humans to use a particular product.
This is a photo of 24 year-old woman who volunteered to test cosmetic.

          Computer Modeling :

Due to our advancements in technology, we now have the capability to simulate anything through sophisticated computer models.
These are just a few examples of what we could be doing to help protect these poor critters

Human Cell testing :

These are laboratory grown cells used for testing various items that range from drugs to cosmetics. This allows testers to burn, intoxicate, the cells when they test their products. Pretty much whatever their little hearts (if they have any) desires.

We don't need to make animals suffer if we have technology to replace them. Here are the alternatives, now it's up to you to do the right thing, to fight for what's right in this crooked world!!!

Animal Testing on Cosmetic - Tania Zabala

A lot of girls from the ages of 8-13 they start wearing makeup. A lot of girls use makeup because they have a low self-esteem, hobby, and some people use makeup has a piece of art. A lot of people who uses makeup don't  know that their makeup are tested on animals which are tortured. Animals that are mostly tested on are rats, mice, and guinea pigs. Big companies such as MAC, Covergirl, and Maybelline  control the makeup industry do have or do use animals for testing. This is because they do control the industry. You could infer that they have top tier lawyers that can defend the companies if they are ever taken to court for the animal testing. Also such companies have control due to their power which derives from its profits. I notice that makeup that don't use animal testing aren't that popular most which are e.l.f, Wet & Wild, and NYX. These products don't sell that good because most girls look up to celebrities that use animal tested makeup.. They don't realize that the inexpensive are the ones that aren't used on animal testing.
They "According to a study from Mint, the average woman spends approximately $15,000 on beauty products during her lifetime. Of that, $3,770 goes to mascara alone " (Golembewski 1)  A lot of girls/women tend not to get makeup that are cruelty free because they don't last longer or it's not popular so they just spend there money on popular makeup brand. The brand e.l.f is cruelty free and doesn't gets enough sell like covergirl or other brands that are non-cruelty. One famous celebrity named Kat Von D, is an tattoo artist, model, musician, and an entrepreneur. She has her own makeup company called Kat Von D beauty. Her makeup products are known to not use animals for testing. Her makeup tends to sell really good. They are sold in various drug stores and also in Sephora. Kat Von D makeup sells quality products. Since they do, they are able to make it onto the shelves of Sephora. Other brands such as E.l.f., which is also non-cruelty, don’t have that quality. Sephora doesn't carry brands that are cruelty-free such as e.l.f,  because they lack the quality that Kat Von D has.

One of the most known companies in the makeup industry is MAC. MAC uses animal testing in their products. I can guarantee that most people who buy their makeup from MAC doesn't know that they use animal testing. I personally think that MAC makeup has great sales because there's always celebrities showcasing their makeup. MAC also has this thing where they sell lipstick that support children and woman who are affected with HIV/AIDS globally. MAC does a good job showing their customers that they help people but they don't know they use animal testing on there products.

In conclusion, next time you go makeup shopping you should try non-cruelty makeup such as e.l.f, Kat Von D, wet & wild and other ones. There more cheaper and they don't hurt animals. Its nice not to waste $25 dollars at MAC for one lipstick that torture animals.

Cockroaches Are Finding More Ways To Get Through Your Door! Adam Roussan

Cockroaches Are Finding More Ways To Get Through  Your  Door!

Adam Roussan

One of the most profitable industries on the market is cosmetics. Which is very popular among the female species who use makeup to enhance their appearance. On the other entrees in this blog issues with makeup involve brands who produce the make up through animal cruelty as well as other things that is rarely looked down upon by the unaware public. However, can this also affect the consumers in a negative way, such as the quality of which the products they are buying from.

As we go farther down into technological development companies have found ways to increase profit by tweaking the products they sell to the public. In doing so, this will not disrupt the use of the product nor will it decrease the number in sales. Average consumers lack the ability or need to check the ingredients within a product before purchasing it. Often checking the ingredients is associated with edible products, however makeup and cosmetics do have a small sticker showing which ingredients are used, which is mandatory by the FDA. However, for many years the cosmetic industry was free from regulation under the US Food and Drug Administration. This has allowed them to freely make statements about their products that would not necessarily be entirely true and exclude ingredients used within their products.

Protein, which is the most expensive product of makeup ingredients, has recently been further investigated by the FDA that had found the results to be shocking. Cockroaches are being used as cheap protein fillers within beauty products. Cockroaches are disgusting and are not welcomed by humans. These creepy crawlers serve no purpose in nature. Instinctively when finding a cockroach in your house, the first thought that crosses your mind is, what's the best thing I can use to squash it? Other people however, run screaming putting as much distance as possible between them and the cockroach. Or like my mom who sprays enough Raid (insect killer) that causes my dad to rent out a room in a hotel for the next three days. Well now they are in your beauty products. According to an article from Los Angeles Times cockroaches are being sold for 20$ a pound and cockroach farming is an official business, that is growing by the hundreds. What makes the cockroaches so desirable is that the ability to raise them easily. Cockroaches feed off anything and harvesting them is as simple as boiling them in water and leaving them out in the sun to dry. Scientists have claimed that cockroaches have provided cures for cancer, flaky skin, and hair loss.  The prices and demands for cockroaches have now begun to rise faster since 2010. These farms are found in china who earn around 11$ dollars per a 3$ investment. Cockroach farmers have use only a couple species of cockroaches which are preferred by companies because of their rich red-brown color and sizes. So there's no need to worry you will always receive high quality cockroaches for your money.

The issue of companies not including ingredients which they provide such as a cheap replacement is somewhat a degree of scamming the consumer. By using cheaper materials for beauty products, I find it to be unprofessional that large companies use what is unknown to the public to their advantage.

The Cosmetics You Use May Be Killing Animals by Omar Acevedo

The purpose of this blog entry is to shed light onto how cosmetics are approved and what measures are taken to ensure they are safe. Like many products, cosmetics must undergo animal testing so that they can be safe. While the FDA doesn’t require animal testing, many big brand names use animal testing to get products approved for the FDA. In this entry I am going to explain what role do animals play into cosmetics and how it can be beneficial or harmful.
Many would agree that animal testing is completely unethical because countless countless lives of rabbits and mice are taken for the sake of the safety of cosmetic products. According to PETA over 30 companies use animal testing in order to put their products on the shelf. Every single product sold has been tested for skin irritation, possibility for birth defects, and more. According to Humane Society, 1-3 rabbits are used to test for skin sensitization, which allows for companies to test for allergic reaction to the skin. During these tests many rabbits experience eye irritation, burned skin, and bleeding. Those who are animal lovers would view testing on animals as unethical because regardless of what safety it achieves, they would not overlook that fact that rabbits had to die for testing of cosmetics products. Many campaigns have been made by PETA to showcase that animals’ lives aren’t worth the beauty, or that there is a dark side to the beauty products involved in our daily lives. Arguments have been made that medical breakthroughs have been made without the use of animals and animal testing doesn’t always ensure accuracy.

Another perspective could be shown that animal testing may be bad in theory, it often helps the people who use it. Animal testing allows for a cosmetic product to be used without hurting humans. If there was an alternative that provides accurate testing without the use of animals, then animal testing should be outlawed. However a live animal can be accurate because the test subject has organs and a circulatory system so the tester can see accurately see a live organism reacting to any product. Due to shorter lifespans of mice and rabbits, a tester can accurately see a reaction over a shorter life span. Animal testing is also regulated by the AWA (Animal Welfare Act), which forces animal testing to be inspected by veterinarians and also approved by the IACUC (International Animal Care and Use Committee). The media portrays animal testing as an unregulated system in which animals suffer, however, only a short list of animals are allowed to be used, and there is a process in which companies to use animals for testing. In the end, all of this is to protect human beings in the daily products we use.

In conclusion, consumers should know the process of how cosmetics are made and approved. Brands who provide cruelty free products allow for the consumer to take an initiative to support PETA. Lack of knowledge about what you are buying breeds ignorance to the consumer. Although certain beauty products may have costed the lives of countless rabbits and mice, it was ensured that the user of the product didn’t receive the same burns and skin irritation that the rabbits or mice may have received.
