Animal Testing on Cosmetic - Tania Zabala

A lot of girls from the ages of 8-13 they start wearing makeup. A lot of girls use makeup because they have a low self-esteem, hobby, and some people use makeup has a piece of art. A lot of people who uses makeup don't  know that their makeup are tested on animals which are tortured. Animals that are mostly tested on are rats, mice, and guinea pigs. Big companies such as MAC, Covergirl, and Maybelline  control the makeup industry do have or do use animals for testing. This is because they do control the industry. You could infer that they have top tier lawyers that can defend the companies if they are ever taken to court for the animal testing. Also such companies have control due to their power which derives from its profits. I notice that makeup that don't use animal testing aren't that popular most which are e.l.f, Wet & Wild, and NYX. These products don't sell that good because most girls look up to celebrities that use animal tested makeup.. They don't realize that the inexpensive are the ones that aren't used on animal testing.
They "According to a study from Mint, the average woman spends approximately $15,000 on beauty products during her lifetime. Of that, $3,770 goes to mascara alone " (Golembewski 1)  A lot of girls/women tend not to get makeup that are cruelty free because they don't last longer or it's not popular so they just spend there money on popular makeup brand. The brand e.l.f is cruelty free and doesn't gets enough sell like covergirl or other brands that are non-cruelty. One famous celebrity named Kat Von D, is an tattoo artist, model, musician, and an entrepreneur. She has her own makeup company called Kat Von D beauty. Her makeup products are known to not use animals for testing. Her makeup tends to sell really good. They are sold in various drug stores and also in Sephora. Kat Von D makeup sells quality products. Since they do, they are able to make it onto the shelves of Sephora. Other brands such as E.l.f., which is also non-cruelty, don’t have that quality. Sephora doesn't carry brands that are cruelty-free such as e.l.f,  because they lack the quality that Kat Von D has.

One of the most known companies in the makeup industry is MAC. MAC uses animal testing in their products. I can guarantee that most people who buy their makeup from MAC doesn't know that they use animal testing. I personally think that MAC makeup has great sales because there's always celebrities showcasing their makeup. MAC also has this thing where they sell lipstick that support children and woman who are affected with HIV/AIDS globally. MAC does a good job showing their customers that they help people but they don't know they use animal testing on there products.

In conclusion, next time you go makeup shopping you should try non-cruelty makeup such as e.l.f, Kat Von D, wet & wild and other ones. There more cheaper and they don't hurt animals. Its nice not to waste $25 dollars at MAC for one lipstick that torture animals.
